Climbing Monte Zerbion is much more than a simple hike. It is a journey into the soul of the Ayas Valley, a route cherished by generations of mountain lovers and considered one of the most iconic excursions in the area.
The trail begins in Antagnod, crossing the historic village with its traditional rascards, symbols of the Walser alpine heritage. The path then follows an ancient mule track towards Barmasc, where hikers are rewarded with the first magnificent views of the Monte Rosa massif.
From here, the route continues to the Pian delle Signore, crosses the historic Ru Courtaud irrigation channel, and reaches the most demanding section of the ascent: the climb to Col Portola, accompanied by the evocative Via Crucis, a place of reflection deeply rooted in local tradition.
As the summit approaches, the effort gradually eases and the panorama widens dramatically. From the top of Monte Zerbion, hikers can admire an extraordinary 360-degree view over the Aosta Valley, including Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Gran Paradiso, and the majestic Monte Rosa.
Monte Zerbion offers a powerful and authentic mountain experience, perfect for those who seek silence, meaning and unforgettable alpine landscapes.
