The chapel itself is a historical treasure. Built at the end of the 15th century, likely thanks to the generosity of the Counts of Challant, whose coat of arms still appears on the keystone, it later became the meeting place of local religious brotherhoods, especially the Brotherhood of the Holy Trinity.
On the façade, visitors are welcomed by a statue of Our Lady of the Rosary and a large Cross adorned with symbols of Christ’s Passion, setting the tone for a deeply spiritual visit. Inside, one of the most striking features is the Altar of the Chapel of the Dead, carved by a Val Sesia artist in the mid-17th century, removed in 1940 and now restored to its original position.
The museum hosts an impressive collection of sacred objects, including chalices, processional crosses, vestments, wooden sculptures, paintings and panels of exceptional value. Highlights include the painted wings of a 16th-century Flügelaltar, once the church’s main altar, depicting the Annunciation on the reverse and saints on the front panels. Also noteworthy are the embossed silver reliquary, the silver monstrance, richly carved altar cards, and the revered image of the Madonna of Barmasc.
A visit to the Sacred Art Museum of Antagnod offers an intimate encounter with centuries of faith, craftsmanship and Alpine identity, revealing a quieter, deeper side of Val d’Ayas.
Opening hours are displayed inside the parish church.
