The Bière d’Ayas offers two new beers
The Cuneaz Russian Imperial Stout and the Antagnod A.P.A.
The year 2020 has brought big news to Michel Becquet that has opened his small local brewery “La Bière d’Ayas” in Champoluc and this year also added two new beers to his range of beers and this thanks to his production of barley in the sunny fields of Lignod and Antagnod.
After the Champoluc I.P.A (India Pale Ale), a special agricultural light ambered beer, 5,3% vol, produced for the first time in January 2017, lightly bitter and with grapefruit- and, a strong, hop taste that makes it full-bodied and intense, Michel tried a new “recipe” in the 2018; the Ayas Pale Ale that is a blond high fermentation beer with classical German hops that gives it the freshness and the typical character of a lager where you feel the malt-taste a lot.
In February 2019 the Lignod Roggenbier arrived, the new red beer with rye. The style of this beer is close to the Weiss Bier but the rye, instead of the wheat, gives this red beer a spicy taste that is typical of the Roggenbier with German soft and delicate hops.
BUT… the news aren’t finished yet and now, 2020, you can try the Cuneaz Russian Imperial Stout; a black beer with a lot of hops and a high alcoholic volume (8,9%), and also the Antagnod A.P.A that, thanks to the American hops, has flowered flavours and you can also feel the crusts of bread when you taste it. That because of the barley that is grown here in the Ayas Valley at 1600 meters above sea level. It’s ambered, fresh and, at the same time, delicately bitter.
Michel is a Sabotier (i.e a person that does the famous typical “sabot” - shoes of wood - by hand from the Ayas Valley) that loves the traditional craftmanship and traditional agriculture and because of this he does not only cultivate the barley, the rye and the wheat for the production of his beers but he also produces the flour (wheat) that is used to do pizzas in some restaurants in the valley and the flour (rye) that is used to do the traditional rye bread that is highly appreciated in our region and it is also used during the “Fehta du Pan Ner”, a traditional rye bread feast when the big public oven in Lignod is used to do bread for the whole community.
And…. what more can we say about the Bière d’Ayas? You can try it in the best bars in our valley!
