An authentic mountain farm along the Ru Courtaud, between fresh cheeses and Alpine silence by Elise and Maria

Visiting Alpe Corneuil is much more than stopping for a meal. It is a gentle immersion into the landscape, rhythms and traditions of high-altitude life in the Val d’Ayas, in the heart of the Aosta Valley.

The agriturismo is located above the village of Antagnod and is reached on foot. From the Barmasc parking area, a pleasant and easy walk follows the historic Ru Courtaud, an ancient irrigation channel that accompanies visitors with the soft sound of flowing water, leading towards the Monte Rosa. The walk itself is part of the experience and perfectly suits families and nature lovers.

The story of the Favre family begins in the 1970s, when Robert Favre, continuing a long family tradition in livestock farming, founded the agricultural business in Lignod. Today the stable hosts around fifteen cows, mainly dairy cattle, raised with care and respect for the mountain environment.

Alpe Corneuil is now run by sisters Elise and Maria, together with their mother Angela, whose warm welcome makes every guest feel immediately at home. Here, hospitality is natural and sincere, just like life in the mountains.

In 2001, the family opened a small farm shop along the Ru Courtaud, offering their own products directly from the alpeggio. A few years later, the idea of welcoming guests for breakfasts and light lunches was born.
“More zero-kilometre than this is simply impossible,” they say with a smile.

The culinary offering is intentionally simple and genuine. Cold dishes are the stars, based mainly on the farm’s dairy production and homemade preserves and jams. Special attention is given to fresh cheeses, the pride of Alpe Corneuil: tomini, fresh cheese and ricotta, all delicate and full of flavour.

During the winter months, the milk is delivered to the Fromagerie Haut Val d’Ayas. The aged cheeses, including tome and fontina, are then served during the summer lunches, enjoyed at the large outdoor tables, surrounded by fresh mountain air and open views.

The shop and dining area are furnished in a traditional Alpine style, with great care for detail. Wood, simplicity and warmth create an atmosphere that feels authentic and welcoming.

Alpe Corneuil is open daily in July and August.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel L'Aiglon. Firstly the staff were so pleasant and helpful. The room was fine, next time we'd opt for one with a balcony! Comfortable bed, great shower. Plenty of storage and hooks for all our ski gear! Breakfast was in a lovely sunny room and there was plenty of choice for all nationalities. It's a slow 10 minute walk to the gondola, we opted for storing our gear there, although you can use the hotel's. Wellness centre was a perfect end to the days skiing.Definitely recommend and we'll be back!

We received a really warm welcome on arrival and right throughout our stay. Breakfast was included in the price. Food was great - loads of variety and really healthy food to prepare us for the day ahead. Would love to return and stay here again in the future.
